My Favorite Time of the Year!

Thanksgiving break has begun! I'm so excited that I will be able to see my family this week! I haven't seen my Momeena, aunts, uncle, and cousins since my wedding back in May. I'm glad that I have a three day break to enjoy time with family and to RELAX. Of course, we'll see Caleb's family, too.

Hopefully next year I can actually decorate for the holidays. My decorating this year consisted of a pumpkin-scented candle for Thanksgiving; I also carved a pumpkin for Halloween. Christmas decorations will most likely consist of a lone snowman decorative candle (that will not be lit) perched atop the DVD shelves and a peppermint candle (that will be lit). Oh, and a Christmas tree, but our apartment is so small that I don't know where we'll put it. Maybe we'll get a miniature one and put it on the coffee table. I love miniature things, and most likely I'll use it for when Caleb and I have a bigger space to decorate.

Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!

The Day I Went to Walmart (by myself) and Survived

I don't like Walmart. Well, I don't like the types of people who shop at Walmart. However, Walmart is much cheaper than Publix and Target. Off to Walmart I went. By myself. Oh, joy!

I walked in. I got a buggy that made noise and meandered to the produce section. I stopped because the aisle was blocked. Commence awkward "Excuse me's" to strangers. I moved on to the grocery items. Stopped again because people were blocking the aisle. More "excuse me's" were exchanged. I neglected to bring a pen so I could cross off each item as I put it in the buggy. So, I was trying to navigate Walmart and remember which items I still needed to get, which meant my already stressed-out brain was getting frazzled by the second. Aannd, I forgot to buy bread.

There is a bright side to this solitary Walmart trip, though! I discovered Nutella; it is made of lollipops and unicorns and rainbows.

The Weekend Where Caleb Goes to a Kansas Concert

Earlier this week, Caleb got a call from his mom asking about the Kansas concert in Tennessee on Friday. We had both forgotten about the concert; I had to work Saturday morning and couldn't get a replacement due to insurance issues. So, Caleb goes to the concert with his brother, his dad, and his brother's friend. He left when I was in classes in order to make it to the concert in time.

I, however, got a call from Andrea around 4 asking if I wanted to go shopping with her. I had nothing better to do (other than watching LOST on Netflix), so I agreed. We met at JCPenny and I got a gorgeous teal sweater dress on sale! :) I think Caleb will like it.

After shopping, Andrea and I went to the congregational singing. It lasted for an hour and a half. I need to remember water and Chapstick next time since my throat was dry and my lips were cracked. Thankfully, I had some cough drops that helped.

A few guys from church had a Star Wars Blu-ray premier party starting with Episode I. One of the guys bought a 50-inch flatscreen and a surround sound system. So, obviously, the sound was absolutely blaring. Andrea actually had to leave because it was too loud. The party didn't start until about 10:30 and didn't end until about 12:30. I didn't end up getting to sleep until about 2. A factor in me not being able to sleep was the fact that Caleb was out of town. Sleeping alone is WEIRD, especially when you've gotten used to sleeping next to your husband in the last four months.

A New Semester Begins

Woot. I'm taking seventeen hours of classes. I'm also teaching swimming lessons Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Alabama football kicked off last Saturday. I've got a lot of stuff going on right now.

I've also been in a food-rut of sorts. With as many hours that I'm taking, my focus is mainly on my schoolwork instead of fixing dinner. It's so much easier to just throw a can of soup on the stove and call it "dinner".  However, after three weeks of eating sandwiches for lunch and soup for dinner, it gets pretty old. Enter www.crockpotgirls.com. Ridiculously, stupid-easy recipes. And Caleb and I got a Crockpot for a wedding gift. Food-rut? Avoided!

I think I'm going to implement a "Must Get Out Of The House On Friday Afternoon/Night" rule. I get so bored on Friday afternoons. I feel cooped up and cranky. Baking cookies sometimes helps, but sometimes I just want to get OUT OF THE APARTMENT. Preferably before I say or do something rash. It's the simple things such as a change in scenery that keeps me sane. And coffee.

My New Obsession

Pinterest. I've heard of this website for a little while, but didn't know exactly what it was. I've also heard it was addictive and planned to stay away from it so I won't be wasting hours on the internet. Heh. Heh. Heh. My mom sent me an invite. I decided to try it to see what all the buzz was about. And.....

OH. MY.

Yep, I'm obsessed. Pinterest is a little bit like Etsy, but I like Pinterest a lot better, mainly because you can "like" things on Pinterest instead of buying them, like on Etsy. You have a virtual "pinboard" on Pinterest; when you see something you like, you have the option to "re-pin" it to your board, comment, or like the post. It's great. I've found so many outfit ideas, dream kitchens, and cool crafts to try. If you're interested in seeing what Pinterest is all about, I can send you an invite. Just leave your email in the comments. I'm warning you though...DON'T BROWSE PINTEREST WHEN HUNGRY.

Dream Kitchens

About a year ago, I became obsessed with kitchens. I would look through my aunt's copy of Southern Living Dream Houses and Kitchens and pick out my favorites. So, since I have a little bit of free time before Fall classes start, I decided to Google "dream kitchens". OH MY. All my favorites from Southern Living couldn't compare to this one. Here's a link: http://www.mainstreetdesignbuild.com/kitchen-remodeling-grosse-pointe-shores-michigan.asp Wood cabinets, a large island with lots of space, a water spigot over the stovetop, recessed ceiling lights, stainless steel appliances, a gas stove...*happy sigh*. I especially like the "shattered glass" cabinets. You can also see what the kitchen looked like before the renovation. WOW.
I know it's highly unlikely that I get this exact kitchen, but it's still fun to dream. I would loooove to have a gas stove, wood cabinets, a large island, and stainless steel appliances in my future kitchen, though. However, I'm satisfied with the tiny apartment kitchen that Caleb and I are fortunate to have.

A quick update

The summer II semester at Alabama is almost over for me!!! My math exam is tomorrow at 8 o'clock in the morning and I'm DONE. I'll get about 2 weeks of downtime before starting my fall semester classes, which means I'll get to sleep in a little bit later that 7 o'clock Monday-Friday. Hooray!

I promise I'll write more later!!

Married Life

I have a job!!! I'm cleaning my mom's boss's office. (Did you get that?!) C and I are super excited! More money for poor college newly-weds! Plus, it doesn't interfere with my class schedule!

We have 3 TV channels now. ABC, CW, and The Country Network. Yeah. Oh, well. Three is better than zero. I've resorted to checking out DVDs at the public library. Hey, it's free, and they actually have a good selection of movies. However, I have a knack for picking the DVDs that are scratched. Boo.

On a completely unrelated note, when people ask me or Caleb, "How's married life", in my mind I think they're asking an altogether different question. I'll let you fill in the blanks. It makes answering, "It's great!" really awkward. For me, at least.

Have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend!

Pizza and Coffee. Strange combination, no?

We're over the puking incident. Thankfully. Ginger ale and saltine crackers are wonderful. And since Caleb and I got over that unspeakable horror, we were able to see his cousin and his wife in Birmingham yesterday. Since they weren't able to make it to our wedding, Josh and Jana took us out to eat to New York Pizza on Oxmoor Road.  Here's a link for ya. http://thenewyorkpizza.com/
After we finished our pizza, we went to O'henry's Coffee Shop. OH MY WORD. It was ah-mazing. Right when I walked in my nose was in coffee heaven. O'henry's serves their coffee/lattes/cappuccinos/etc in REAL MUGS. I highly recommend the Turtle Deluxe--Ghirardelli chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, and espresso with steamed milk. Are you drooling yet? http://www.ohenryscoffees.com/ Check them out.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Today, I woke up to a sick husband. "Not fun" is an understatement. My close friends know that I cannot stand puke. I have been Lysoling every surface he touches in hopes that I won't catch the virus. I think it would be torture if both of us were sick. Mainly because we share a teensytinsylittle bathroom. Yeah.

I really, really hope you have a better day than my poor husband. Or me, for that matter.

New Beginnings!

Welcome to my blog!! I'm planning on mostly using this to document my transition from singledom to newly-wedded bliss. So far, so good. ;) I'll post uptates, I promise!

Well, I'm assuming that you're a tad bit curious about me and my DH (Dear Hubby/Husband). Here goes! I am a twenty year old junior in college. My DH, Caleb, is working on his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. (Yuck.) He is twenty-six years old and is a hard-core gamer nerd. We met at a college Bible study in March 2010; he proposed on August 21, 2010. We were married on May 14, 2011 at 2:30 in the afternoon. I'm not a fan of long engagements, as you can tell.

After about a week and a half of living with 6845 boxes in a teeny-tiny apartment, Caleb and I finally unpacked and started arranging our wedding presents. (I, of course, being a Southern Girl, took note of who gave what so I could send thank-you cards.) I'll post pictures once I put them on my laptop.
